Gunmen attacked a mosque in western Afghanistan, killing at least 5 people, including a woman and a child and injuring three others.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, said the officials.
Despite the Taliban’s efforts to improve security after foreign troops left in 2021, violence targeting mosques and other places continues.
Herat province, where the attack happened, has a large Shia Muslim community and has seen some of the country’s deadliest attacks against civilians.
