In the early hours of May 6, a fire broke out in a flat on the sixth storey in Whampoa Housing Board. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident at around 2:30 am at Block 76 Lorong Limau.
Despite the valiant efforts of firefighters, a 60-year-old man lost his life in the blaze.Two women, aged 60 and 77, were rescued and rushed to the hospital.
They are family members of the deceased man, said the officials. The fire affected the entire unit, and around 200 neighbours were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Community organizations are providing support to the affected families during this difficult time.Based on preliminary investigations, police said that they don’t suspect any foul play.
Police investigations are ongoing.
